Aphodius contaminatus/obliteratus
Both these autumn species prefer horse dung although by no means exclusively. They can be quite easily separated by the characteristics below.


Pronotum
contaminatus: Lateral edges of the pronotum fringed with long hairs.
obliteratus: Lateral edges of the pronotum without long hairs, almost glabrous.

Elytra
contaminatus: Elytral hairs longer, denser and continuous from apex to base.
obliteratus: Elytral hairs shorter, sparser and not continued to base.
