Achopera alternata Lea
A single adult of this Australian weevil was extracted from a sample of loose decaying heartwood taken from a local mature Fagus which had blown over in a gale during June 2007. Unable to id the specimen using our literature, and aware that it was probably unusual, we sent it to Dr. M.G.Morris who quickly informed us that it was not on any European list. Dr. Morris then took the specimen to the Natural History museum where it was named by Max Barclay and Richard Thompson. The species has been recorded from Europe on a single previous occasion, from Wales in 1998 by J.H.Bratton ¹. Although the specimen has been donated to the museum we hope to feature a picture when possible
